BOOM!!! ************************************************ VM100 TECH TIPS! Please read sections 1.1 and 1.2 in the VM100 manual before continuing. Before installing the VM100 we would like to make a few suggestions to prevent any conflicts and help make the installation go as smoothly as possible. It is very important that you follow each step very carefully. This will eliminate possible issues later on. The VM100 requires an existing (free) com port, so we need to check for other devices that may cause conflicts. Mouse settings: 1) First of all we need to know what kind of mouse you have. a) Follow the cable from the mouse to where is plugs into the computer system. b) If the plug is round, you have a bus or PS/2 style mouse and it will not interfere with the VM100. c) If the plug is rectangular however, it is a serial mouse and you will need to find out what com port and IRQ it is using (check you COMPUTER or I/O CARD documentation for in- formation). 2) If you have a modem please follow steps below. a) An external modem will be plugged into a serial port located in the back of your system. (check your COMPUTER or I/O CARD documentation once again to see what com port and IRQ it is plugged into). b) An internal modem also uses a com port and an IRQ. The settings on an internal modem are set by either dip switches or jumpers on the modem itself. To find out what comport and IRQ your internal modem is us- ing, read your modem documentation and check what your modem is set to. 3) Prepare the sound card: Another good idea is to check the LINE IN PORT on your sound card. a) Plug a microphone into the line in on the sound card. b) Make sure that your sound card software is set to record from LINE IN or MIX. (see your sound card software manual for instructions). c) Check the MIXER CONTROLS and make sure the VOLUME and the GAIN gettings are turned up. d) Now try to record with the microphone plugged into the LINE IN on you sound card. Note: Plug the microphone back into the microphone connector after you are done testing. 4) Hardware installation: If you have done all the above successfully and you are sure that you don't have any com port or IRQ conflicts then you should be ready to connect the VM100 to your machine. * WARNING: Page 5 of the VM100 USER MANUAL has a misprint. * The Diagram of the TO LINE & TO PHONE con- nectors are backwards. * VM100 has TO LINE & TO PHONE correctly stamped on it. a) First of all, find an empty serial port on the back of you computer. b) Check your (SYSTEM or I/O card) documentation to see what com port you are connecting the VM100 to. (COM 1, COM 2 ETC). c) Connect the VM100 securely into a 25 pin serial port or a 9 pin serial port (using the 25 pin to 9 pin adapter). d) Connect the phone line (coming out from the wall) into the connector marked LINE on the VM100. e) The connector marked PHONE can either be con- nected to a TELEPHONE or to the LINE IN on a modem. f) Plug the speaker into the hole next to the red wire marked SPK0. g) Plug the red wire (marked S.C.SPK) into the speaker connector on the sound card. h) Plug the black wire (marked S.C. LINE IN) into the LINE IN connector on the sound card. 5) Software installation: You are now ready for the software installation. a) Follow steps 1 - 7 on page 8 section 2.3 of your VM100 manual For software installation. Note: If you followed all the steps above, you should have no problem with your VM100. ************************************************ Author: Corey Jackson. Subject: VM100 and OVERFLOW error or TELDEL.DLL Floating Point error. Symptom: The vm100 would answer the call and play the outgoing message, but when attempting to record the incoming message would give on of the following messages: OVERFLOW error or TELDEL.DLL Floating Point error. Solution: 1.- Delete and re-installed the vm100 software. Make sure you get the software installed ok and the self-check comes back ok. 2.- Verify that the PHYSICAL COM PORT matches the Comport Seeting in the TELE.INI file. Example: If the vm100 is attached to com 2 the Setting in the TELE.INI should be set Comport=Com2 REMEMBER...even if the customer states the vm100 is on a certain port, you should check the TELE- .INI file to make sure the comport= line is referring to the correct com port. ********************END OF FILE****************** *********************END OF FILE******************* ***************END OF FILE************* ***************************************
