Open Control Panel, open "System" icon click on "Device Manager" tab, click on the plus sign next to any sound device entries listed. This will open another list of all the drivers associated with that entry. Highlight and remove each device listed. The main entry for the hardware should disappear. Click "OK" to close System Properties. Next, open "Add New Hardware," click "Next" and select the "Install Specific Hardware" radio button and click "Next." With the next "page," ignore listings under "Manufacturers" and "Models" and click the "Have Disk" button. At this point, you should either be able to load the necessary files from your original installation disks or, possibly, from the directory of the original Windows 3.1 installation (i.e. c:\mmp16p\windows). Windows 95 looks for any file with the ".inf" extension and should set up your sound system using the 16 bit drivers designed for Windows 3.1. Can I get my SC400 to work with Windows NT A Yes. Reveal does not provide any specific drivers, there is a way around it: Boot the machine as DOS. Go to the \I386 directory of the CD and run WINNT. You will need three formatted floppies for your A drive. Follow the directions. Boot the machine as DOS. Create a directory on the C: drive (I used CD as the directory name). Copy the entire MSVCNT directory from the CD ROM (and all the subdirectories) to the newly created directory. I used Windows to just drag and drop the MSVCNT directory from the CD Rom drive onto the C:\CD directory. Boot the machine as NT. Install VC++ from the C: drive. To get the online books, then copy all the files from C:CD\MSVCNT\HELP to the help directory in the VC++ installation (it doesn't matter if you overwrite anything; they are the same files). You also have to patch the Registry database. To do this, run REGEDT32 in the system32 directory. In the HKEY_USERS window, go down into the S-1-5-21 ... and install. It should work now. Q. SC400 range - Intermittent digital sound in Windows applications. A. The problem is with the Windows [MCI] drivers. they seem to be either not installed or corrupt. Run scandisk and then reinstalling them. Q. SC500 - there are 256 sounds/voices. How do I access the additional 128 voices / sound effects? A. Imagine a palette of 256 sampled sounds/voices. (A wavtable). The sound card can only access 128 of these at any ONE time. They can all be used but not all at the same time. Q. When booting with SC400 rev 4R error message- VSNDSYS.386 not found A. This is the virtual driver for Microsoft Windows sound system, change DMA to 0 in driver setup, and make sure the relvant line is in the c:\sc400 directory and driver loaded in drivers panel. Q. Problems with SC400 Rev G/R with Packard Bell 55's A. Model PB55's motherboard has a defect in the Riser card/and the DMA controller on the mother board. There will be an inherent DMA problem. You need to contact Packard Bell and have them resolve this "issue" for you, until then, Reveal's (and I believe any one else's) sound card will exhibit strange DMA problems. Q. High Screen Colani DX2/66 (UMC 82C4917F Vobis VC4915-C Ver 1.1) and SC400 Rev 4R A. This card is not compatible because of a DMA/BUS controller conflict. Replace with SC400 Rev 4 A or G.
