ISSUE: Keep getting an MPU401 ERROR on the boot when entering Windows. SOLUTION: Edit the AUTOEXEC.BAT FILE and put (WIN) at the bottom of the file. _________________________________________________ ISSUE: Magic configuration. This will fix many errors. SOLUTION: Go to C:\SC400\UTILITY and run CONFIG. Change the MWSS address to F40H, and the MPU401 IRQ to 7. Now go to Windows Driver section and run setup on the 16BIT AUDIO DRIVER and change the WAVE IRQ to 2/9 and go to ADVANCED and put and (X) in USE SINGLE MODE DMA. Re- start Windows and boom! ________________________________________________ ISSUE: To configure an IDE CD-ROM drive on the SC400R4G, and the SC500 sound cards, You must perform the following. 1) Must enable the IDE jumper on the card. 2) Run SNDINIT and select any of the IDE drive option ( e.g. MITSUMI FX001DE ) 3) Copy the appropriate IDE CD-ROM driver to your hard drive. 4) Edit your CONFIG and manually enter the appropriate parameter for the drive you are using ( e.g. device=c:\MTMCDAI / d:mscd000 /p:170,15 if you are using a Mitsumi IDE drive. This line must be below the device=c:\sc500\ CDSETUP.sys /T:I /P:170 /I:x /D:x statement. Another way to do this is just edit the config.sys and change the /T:X to /T:I ( " I " is for IDE drive ), /P:x to / P:170 ( 170 is the secondary IDE address and manually enter the correct parameters for the drive you are using below this line. NOTE: If the IDE jumper is enabled and you have not connected an IDE drive to the sound card, it will cause there to be no or distorted video. ________________________________________________ ISSUE: Can't get the installation to run suc- cessfully: SOLUTION: Make a dummy directory on the C: drive and copy all three disks to that di- rectory. Now go to Windows and run the installation from the dummy dir. _________________________________________________ ISSUE: Had a cust with the mfx05 kit. Got the mpu401 error message at startup of win- dows. checked the autoexec.bat and found dosshell as well as win/3. We moved both of these lines to the bottom of the AE.bat. Rebooted the system and still got the same error message. SOLUTION: Ran sndinit.exe from the sc500 directory and discovered that the mpu401 interface is set to "off". we set it to "on"..and rebooted--> No longer getting the error message from windows. ************************************************ Subject: SC400R4G, SC500 AND Packard Bell Pentium Systems Subject: Rev 4G "Software must be installed from "A" drive" error. SOLUTIONS: If computer locks up without any reason during or after the installation of the sc4004g or sc500 software, try the following: Reinstall the software and change the sound mode from sound blaster Pro mode to Windows Sound Systems mode and replace the IRQ from 11 to 10. The problem seems to be that some of the Packard Bell systems may use IRQ 11 for video, conflicting with the original IRQ settings in the sound card. In General if you are having problems initializing the card (sc4004g and/or sc500) with Packard Bell Pentium systems, or the card works only in some modes, do the following: 1.- Run the sndinit and change to windows Sound System. 2.- Change the IRQ and save changes and reboot. 3.- Run sndinit again and change the IRQ back. 4.- Change to Sound Blaster Mode Again. 5.- This should work.... ======================================================================== Subject: Rev 4G "Software must be installed from "A" drive" error. Problem: Software can not be install from b: drive. SOLUTION: To install the 4G software from a dual floppy machine with the 3.5" floppy as the "B" drive. Try using the ASSIGN command to switch the A and B drives. * Boot the machine clean (HIMEM.sys only, if possible). * Go to DOS sub-directory. * Type ASSIGN a: b: * Switch to the A drive. Insert install disk #1. type INSTALL * This swhould work fine for the rest of the install. * If the ASSIGN command is not on the system. Try SUBST command. ======================================================================== Subject: SC400R4G CD-ROM drivers using D: drive. SOLUTION: Scenario: no hardware conflicts MPU-401 port enabled Windows Drivers Are Fine Windows does not start upon boot, have to manually Change around the settings of the sound card to get it to work, even if is only for ONE WINDOWS SESION. (When rebooting, the MPU-401 error keeps on coming back over and over again). Move the line C:\SC400\SNDINIT /B to the top, if this doesn't work, then DELETE the line above and then RETYPE IT. Try to retype the line on the bottom of the AUTOEXEC.BAT file, regardless of common practice of putting it at the top and the MPU-401 error may go away. ======================================================================== Subject: Re: Quad speed Mitsumi using SC400R4G. Not all quad speed drives use the IDE interface, for example the TEAC quad uses the same PANASONIC AT bus interface. One thing to check is the secondary IDE address was set right to 170h and no other device was using IRQ 15 as some net cards can. And the IDE jumper was set to on the sound card to IDE "ON". And make sure that the cd-rom master/slave jumper was set to master wich helps. I don't really think it was a driver issue I believe not all computers can use the secondary IDE address. As a last ditch effort, if you can't get the IDE cd-rom drive to work on the sound card, you can get it to work on the same cable as the hard drive. You would have to set the hard drive as a master with a slave present. Sometimes set it for master with non-ata slave and set the IDE drive to slave. However keep in mind not all hard drives can work with IDE cd-rom drives in the same cable.... But many or most will ======================================================================== Subject: Re: MITSUMI DRIVES Problem: How to configure IDE cd-rom Interface.
